What, exactly, are the spirits telling you?
So there’s a bunch of people living in the shadow of Mount Merapi, an active volcano in Indonesia that’s about to erupt … and despite the fact that the mountain is belching smoke and flowing lava has already reached out a mile from the peak, these folks aren’t going anywhere.
They say they “believe that spirits watch over the peak and will warn them of an eruption.”
Perhaps, by some tiny shred of possibility, or some mammoth strech between the spiritual and the practical, could these spirits maybe be warning you to get the hell out by – um – sending plumes of black ash into the sky?!
Just a thought.

A very religious man was sitting at home one night watching the TV news. The weather reporter and the anchors told of heavy rains forcasted for the next day, to cause serious flooding. He urged everyone in the town to evacuate if they could.
The man said to himself, “I’ll be fine. I’m deeply religious, I go to chuch, I pray. God will save me.”
The next day the rains came, and the town began to flood. As the streets began to fill with water, making it too dangerous to drive or walk anywhere, rescue teams in rowboats began treading up and down the streets. One such boat came up to the religious man’s house and called out to him to get in the boat and head for safety. The man declined.
“I’m very religious,” he said. “I go to church, I pray. God will save me.”
The boater shook his head and continued on his way.
After a day or two of torrential rains, the waters nearly swallowed the man’s single-story home, and he had climbed out and sat on the roof. A rescue helicopter flying overhead spotted him and lowered a ladder. A crewmember climbed down the ladder and called out to the man to climb aboard, and they’d fly to safety. Once again, the man declined. “I’m very religious, I go to church, I pray. God will save me.” Not knowing what else to do, the helicopter crew left him on the roof.
As the waters rose higher, the man eventually drowned and went to heaven. He made his way before God, whom he asked, “I was very religious. I went to church, I prayed. Why didn’t You save me?”
God shook His head rather incredulously. “I sent you a TV news report, a row boat, and a helicopter. What more did you want???”

I recall the pastor of my old church telling that one during a Sunday sermon a loooong time ago – and it’s as true as it is amusing…
