update
After reading Fluffy’s thoughtful and contemplative recent posts today, I realized it’s been a while since I posted anything of redeeming value here.
Unfortunately, I haven’t got much to say that would have any redeeming value. So in lieu of anything insightful or introspective, here’s the latest news from the Casa de Rea…
The office remodel is coming along nicely. We removed the floor and wood paneling, found (somewhat) intact drywall underneath (the paneling, not the floor) and have spent the last week mudding and sanding. As I type this, our friend Adam is hard at work painting the walls and ceiling – and this coming week we’ll set about installing a new floor and new trim. I would post photos, but the Gallery script has decided to be a little recalcitrant P.I.T.A., so you’re going to have to wait. If you need a way to pass the time, go watch some crazy people and their home-made jet engine on YouTube.
Work is good, and I’ve just returned from a road trip to Detroit with my manager and another engineer. Sandwiched between design reviews with some very smart, very experienced engineers, we managed to spend a few hours at the North American International Auto Show. I took lots of photos, but thanks to the aforementioned Gallery recalcitrance, won’t be posting them any time soon. But stay tuned – maybe if I suddenly grow some patience, they’ll appear for your viewing pleasure.
My car is rapidly approaching its 100,000-mile birthday after 7-and-a-half years in service. It’s managed to go 30,000 miles on a gimpy transmission, and we’re well on the way to making the repairs needed to make it last to 150K. In the mean time, I’m going to throw a “big 100″ party when the odo rolls past 99,999 … which will really just be a good excuse to drink wine and hang out with some friends. Hey, sometimes these things need to be done.
Now I’m off to start attempting to remove a wallpaper border in our foyer. Yay for home improvement! (or something like that…)
