I haven’t watched a Super Bowl in a few years, so this year I figured I’d tune in. With Kelly sleeping off last night’s double-shift, I’m parked on the couch with my laptop. The Colts have just taken the lead in the 2nd quarter, and I’ve just demed the first laugh-out-loud commercial to be the GM “obsessed with quality” ad…
So far, the biggest thing that’s struck me about this year’s game has been the apparent lack of planning on the part of the TV crews… If I had just shelled out a pile of cash for a high-def TV for this year’s Super Bowl party, I think I’d be disappointed with how crappy the picture is (evidently) on account of all the rain water fogging the camera lenses! I think it’s the worst on the high-placed, long-range cameras… They’re running at such long focal lengths that the water just makes the whole picture look like a video feed straight from 1983.
With 3 minutes left in the 2nd, the pictures are starting to look better – maybe somebody ran some towels up there! So much for “presented in high definition” I guess!
